Nestled deep in the valley of Southeast Minnesota's Root River, you'll find Historic Lanesboro. This quaint and scenic community offers invigorating outdoor activities, rich artistic experiences, live professional theater, unique shopping, locally grown foods, fine dining and diverse lodging.
Relax in a quiet place with no stoplights or franchises. Lanesboro is a historic village nestled in the Bluffs of the Root River Valley. Experience the spectacular paved Root River State Bike Trail, winding 60 miles through Bluff Country. Excellent for biking, hiking, and cross-country skiing, it runs along towering limestone bluffs, dense hardwood forests and peaceful small towns.
Besides receiving the Great American Main Street Award, Lanesboro was named one of 100 Best Small Art Towns in America by author John Villani and one of the 50 Best Outdoor Sports Towns by Sports Afield magazine. Outside Magazine featured Lanesboro as one of the "20 Best Dream Towns in America to Live and Play." Lanesboro was named the Rhubarb Capital of Minnesota in 2008.
Our visits to Lanesboro have been like short stays in Eden. The accomodations are distinctive and gracious, as are the inn-keepers, and the Root River Trail takes you through not a garden of our making. It is our special getaway from the Twin Cities.
