A Natural Wonder Beneath the Bluffs

Just a short drive from Lanesboro, Niagara Cave is a nationally recognized geological treasure. Visitors descend into a subterranean world carved over thousands of years by water and stone, where highlights include:

  • A 60-foot underground waterfall

  • Stunning stalactites and stalagmites

  • Ancient fossils dating back 450 million years

  • Winding passageways that reveal the raw beauty of the earth

It’s a place where science, adventure, and natural history come together for an unforgettable experience.

A Battle with the Elements

On Monday, August 18, after nearly 9.5 inches of rainfall in 48 hours, Niagara Cave experienced flooding. Portions of the cave filled with water, making sections inaccessible and forcing the staff to recommend rescheduling tours.

But the dedicated team at Niagara Cave didn’t waste a moment. As the waters receded, they rolled up their sleeves, wading through floodwater by headlamp (with the electricity off for safety!) to begin cleaning and restoring the pathways.

By the morning of August 20, the cave was once again accessible for tours, though one stretch still had a trickle of water flowing over the path. Later that same day, after two long nights of hard work, Niagara Cave officially reopened fully to visitors.

A Spectacular Reward

If there’s a silver lining to all that rain, it’s the cave’s waterfall. Fed by the surge of recent rainfall, the underground falls are currently at their most powerful and awe-inspiring—a truly one-of-a-kind sight. For those who’ve never seen Niagara Cave before, this is the perfect moment to experience it. For return visitors, it’s a rare chance to witness the cave in a whole new way.
