    Lanesboro Sesquicentennial Community Time Capsule

Lanesboro, Minnesota -- Be a part of Lanesboro’s Time Capsule! Contribute candidate items (photos, documents, artifacts, etc.) to be encapsulated for 50 years.  The community will vote on items to be placed inside.

    Rules:
    1. Items must be representative of life in Lanesboro in 2019, with descriptions as needed.
    2. Photographs and documents must be no bigger than 11”x17” and must be flexible enough to be rolled into a cylinder
    3. Non-perishable artifacts that fit into a Ziploc Snack Bag (Size: 6. 5 inch x 3.25 inch) qualify as candidates.  Eligibility of larger artifacts will be determined by the judges.
    4. Items must be submitted to the Lanesboro City Office no later than 3:00 Friday, July 5.
    5. Decisions of the judges are final.  All selected items become property of the City of Lanesboro.
Voting will take place at the Community Potluck on Sunday, July 7.  Near the end of the Potluck, items will be selected based on number of votes.  Items will continue to be placed in the time capsule until the capsule is filled.
The capsule will then be buried, to be re-opened in 50 years.

    More info:
Voters will cast ballots at the Community Potluck on Sunday, July 7.  Ballots will allow three votes within each assigned category (so you can always vote for your own item, plus others).  Likely categories are:
    1. Agriculture
    2. Arts and Music
    3. Community service/Civics/Chartered organizations
    4. Individuals/Neighborhoods/Miscellaneous
    5. Outdoors/Recreation
    6. Retail/Goods and Services
    7. School
    8. Tourism/Lodging
    9. Worship/Church life
This will be fun!  Categories may be subject to change, based on the nature and numbers of items submitted.  The judges will decide the appropriate category for each item. Contributors can suggest a category.

Please enclose a brief description of the items submitted, if possible. It would identify items now as well as 50 years from now.  Younger folks may still be around 50 years from now to witness the reopening!

The Sealing of the Time Capsule and Burial Ceremony will take place after the Community Potluck at 3:00, in Rita’s Garden, by the parking lot of the Community Center.
