BLUF: Staying anywhere else in Lanesboro will feel disappointing after staying here, IMO. Brian (owner)! I am SO SORRY it's taken me two months to get this review up! Your establishment and service were WELL-ABOVE and WELL-BEYOND expectations! I used to live in the Preston/Lanesboro area and was returning, after about 15 years, for a trout fishing trip. I wanted something where I could take out my kayak right at the river. Well, the banks are slick and a bit steep at Green Gables, but you can go about 200-300 yards more downstream and take out at the ball field. Upon booking, I received lots of legalese and rules via email, so I was thinking that it was going to not be the best experience. I was SO WRONG. The room was SO IMPRESSIVE (A8, the "Royal Suite"). It has a fireplace that operates on a switch/timer, an AWESOME giant bed; the couch and chair were so comfortable I'm going to write to find out who makes them. There was really nothing wrong with the room. We walked into town, took in a show, drank, walked back, fished from the bank. Brian was full of local info and tips, and offered to help us out if we were stuck for an Uber (which we would have been if we stuck with our original plan. Don't count on rideshare apps around here). Brian took time to talk to us, share his background with the property, get to know us a bit, and make us feel welcomed. There were muffins and coffee for breakfast. Super clean. Quiet. Wasn't dated. For anyone going here for water activities, CALL BRIAN! He'll give you the water conditions. Local fishing shops want you to think it's "not all that bad" so that you come spend some money, but when we went, the water was chocolate milk. DARK chocolate milk. No tubing. No kayaking. No fish (though we tried). But he can help give you a head's up on the water condition so you can alter your plans accordingly. Only recommendation for the future: have free or rental bikes and/or kayaks available . . . and some fireplace instructions to keep us from blowing up the place ;)

Response from Green Gables Inn It was a great pleasure to connect with James when he came back for a visit to this area. What a gentleman and well-spoken conversationalist. Thank you for this positive and uplifting review. It is very much appreciated. We hope you will find your way back to the area soon to find weather conditions that are more conducive to navigating the river and catching some of the many trout that thrive in this region! While the river was unusually high throughout our mid-season this year, there has been many good reports of great fishing lately. Looking forward to a time in the future when you have the opportunity to return. Until then take care, friend!
