“Something Good” Collection Event at former Slant AvenueName: “Something Good” Collection Event at former Slant AvenueDate: May 2, 2018Time: 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM CDTTrip Builder: View TripEvent Description:
You have a wonderful array of fabulous possessions, don’t you? Artist in residence Erin Lavelle invites you to stop by the former Slant Avenue space at 105 Elmwood St E between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. May 2nd through May 4th to give something good away and share its story! Focus on practicing a radical act of generosity. Value is subjective and relative here – what is the most generous thing you can give? What has outgrown its environment or conditions? What might bring more joy or better use to others? What is so beloved that you are compelled to share it? For inspiration, please consider attending one of the discussion events at the St, Mane Theatre on April 25, Anna V’s B &B on April 26, or the High Court Pub on April 27.
The future of these collected goods will be revealed when Erin returns to Lanesboro to complete her public art exchange project during the 2nd half of her residency August 6 – 20, 2018.
Erin is a Minneapolis-based artist that believes that the meaningful exchange of stories and goods amongst neighbors has the power to move a community forward in the way members relate to each other; promoting problem-solving through deeper listening skills.”Something Good” is a public art exchange project based on the Buddhist concept of dana (generosity) where both the specific gift and the recipient are considered when giving.
Erin will join the Lanesboro community for two residencies in 2018, with the first taking place April 23 – May 7 and the second August 6 – 20. Locals will have an opportunity to participate in April by offering up ‘something good’ to the project through a donation and storytelling event series. The future of those goods and stories will be revealed in August when Erin returns to complete the project, and again, residents and visitors will have an opportunity to participate.
