Free screenings of the 2000 film "Pollock" starring Ed Harris at the Commonweal Theatre on Saturday, March 23 and Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m. This award-winning film reflects on the life of artist Jackson Pollock, an American painter and a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement, well known for his unique style of drip painting. Despite professional acclaim, Pollock’s personal life was a shambles as he struggled with self-doubt and alcoholism. Pollock is a powerful depiction of the creative process and its costs.
Marcia Gay Harden won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for portraying Lee Krasner, Pollock's wife. Ed Harris received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his portrayal of Pollock. The film was a long-term personal project for Harris based on his previous reading of Pollock's biography.
Note: this movie is rated R for language and sexuality.
