  • Lanesboro Celebrates Second Annual Welcoming Week Event

Lanesboro Area Chamber of Commerce and Lanesboro EDA Host Activities on Wednesday, September 14, 2022

Lanesboro, MN September 2, 2022— The Lanesboro Area Chamber of Commerce and the Lanesboro Economic Development Authority are once again joining forces to welcome new Lanesboro and Whalan business owners, community leaders and residents. This event will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 14, during “Welcoming Week,” a nationwide initiative to help communities celebrate unity and togetherness.

The gathering will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Volleyball Picnic Shelter between the Sons of Norway Hall and the Lanesboro Community Center. There will be a time for community members to socialize with the guests of honor while also networking and enjoying light snacks and beverages.

Joe Goetzke, president of the Lanesboro Area Chamber of Commerce, noted this event is a great way to introduce new business owners to those who have owned establishments in Lanesboro for a number of years. “These new business owners can experience the networking that can exist within the Chamber and utilize the wisdom and resources our other members can provide,” he said. “We have a vibrant business community and members who work with the Chamber to create a community of acceptance - helping us all prosper."

The 2022 guests of honor include representatives from Eagle Bluff Nature Center Preschool; Christina and Jordan Evenson from Clara’s Eatery; Bethany Grace of Waniya Healing; Angie and Scott Taylor from Action Fitness; Joe O’Koren from O’Koren Law; Carly McNeilus; and developers Geoff Griffin of G-Cubed and Joel Pfeffer of Sparrow Valley Properties, LLC. Fire Chief Rob Wagner will also be recognized as part of the efforts to establish the new fire and rescue building.

New residents who have moved into Lanesboro or Whalan in the past year are also invited to join the festivities and will be given the opportunity to introduce themselves to the group.

Lanesboro’s EDA director, Cathy Enerson, believes Lanesboro's magical spirit creates a heartfelt welcome to new businesses and new residents. “We must work at sustaining what has drawn people to reside and do business in Lanesboro,” she said. “Welcoming Week, a national event, provides us with an opportunity to celebrate together.” Since 2012, Welcoming Week has served as the annual campaign and celebration led by Welcoming America to showcase the growing movement of communities striving to be more welcoming places for all, including immigrants. By fostering mutual respect and cooperation between new and long-time residents, Welcoming Week brings together people across lines of difference toward greater prosperity for all.
