Winter Angling

Winter Angling Lanesboro graphic

Wade Into Winter

Lanesboro, is an epicenter for some of the nation’s (yes, the nation’s!) best trout fishing streams, which make for great winter trout fishing. The South Branch of the Root River flows through downtown Lanesboro, and it is a tributary to the Mississippi River. Many spring-fed streams flow into the Root River, providing amazing habitat for trout and other species. Make the most of Minnesota's trout fishing season with a winter angling trip to Lanesboro.

Winter Catch and Release

Stop into Root River Rod Co., an all-in-one fishing shop for gear, advice, and guide services. These friendly experts are ready to help anglers of all skill levels and provide all the trout fishing gear you need.

Ice Fishing

The bass pond off of County Highway 8 boasts ice fishing. The Lanesboro Memorial Ice Fishing Tournament happens on the bass pond in February. Check out Sylvan Park, which has an ADA-accessible fishing pier for catch and release in the winter.
