Juniper's Restaurant

History

Executive Chef and Owner Tyler Shipton grew up on a large hobby farm near Forestville State Park.  Youth was spent on the farm with grandma Shipton in the garden, canning, pickling and preparing for her delicious homemade pies.  This lead to a passion and love for food and off he went to Culinary school, in Minneapolis, MN.  Graduating with honors and a bachelors degree in culinary arts and management.   Hard work and dedication led Chef to some of the cities most prominent kitchens, including: Bar Lagrassa, Travail kitchen & amusements and training under James Board award winning Chef Steven Brown.    Success continued and Chef opened is first restaurant, Borough in the North Loop.  Known for its mouthwatering burgers, its a staple in the Minneapolis food scene.  

Curiosity and a love for the beach, chef took off to the west coast, landing a job with the Cohen Group, running a 220 seat farm to table bistro style restaurant.  Open 6 days a week, Chef reinvented the menu and dove into a 5 year commitment.  Searching for what was next Chef's curiosity lead to Japanese cuisine and he became the executive chef of The Joint, Ocean Beach, CA.  Then Covid hit and everyone's world was turned upside down.   San Diego, Ca is where Chef met his now wife, Ame, a special place they love to visit.  In June of 2020 Tyler and Ame found out they were expecting their first child and back to Minnesota they went.  The universe works in its mysterious ways, in April of 2021 he came across the current location that house Juniper's Restaurant today.  A previous restaurant, dormant for two years.  It was calling their names and chef embarked on the biggest journey of his career.  A restaurant named after their daughter, Juniper, overlooking the stunning Root River, in Lanesboro MN. Established December 2021. Elevated food flavors with a casual dining experience.  Open seasonally, catering and private events available.
